South Africans Rejoice, As President ; Jacob Zuma steps down
South African President Jacob Zuma, Resigns
Jacob Zuma has resigned as South Africa’s President.
Zuma resigned on Wednesday 14th February night following orders by his ANC Party.
The news comes amidst confusion after he adamantly remained put amid the pressure from his party. The South African parliament had scheduled a motion of no confidence against him today at 2pm (Thursday 15th).
Zuma, 75, issued a televised speech where he thanked South African’s for trusting him with the highest office in the land.
“I have served South Africa to the best of my ability. I am forever grateful that they trusted me with their highest office in the land. When I accepted the deployment, I understood and undertook to subject myself to the supreme law of the land- The Constitution.” he said.
Zuma’s reign since 2009 have been marred with scandals, what prompted his demotion by the ANC Party and electing Cyril Ramaphosa as the party President in December last year.
The ANC party president and current Vice President Ramaphosa is poised to take over as President for the remainder of Zuma’s term before the country heads to an election.

At Long Last. Why do African Presidents in the southern parts of africa always refuse to hand power over. always power hungry and corrupt
ReplyDeleteits a shame he had to be pressured before he hands over power. we the people of south africa have always desired change. and change has certainly come our way. Praise the Lord
ReplyDeleteSo what happens to him after he steps down ? If it were the Western world, he would have faced justice for holding the presidency hostage. Why do African Leader think they own the country they serve. It's always a pity to read article or watch news about african leaders tarnishing the beautiful image of mother Africa
