Common Misconceptions About Ghana

Africa through out history, shows rich culture, diversity and what
Westerners may call an "Untamed" way of living. Though True to
specific extent(the first two), the latter however is based on a misguided theory.

Such Theories, based on errors and unproven facts are made popular through media
and popular culture(reading materials, documentaries).

Formulation of such myths leave permanent scares on the African continent, where
many people still describe it as "The Dark Continent".

A country which has had it's fair share of misconception is Ghana.
In this article, we hope to debunk such "Myths" and Theories that tarnish.

1. Citizen's Live On Trees.
You might be Surprised about this but people actually believe if not only Ghana,
but the entire African civilization, live on tree tops. Ever watched the popular
Tarzan Movie? That's exactly how they see us.
To be clear, Nobody lives on the tree. The Country is advancing in technology
(Thomas Mensah - helped in making Optical Fibre or popular known as fibre optics),
Architecture, Finance, health and a lot more.

2. Everyone knows Everyone.
This is really common amongst Africans who study or live abroad.
You meet a white friend, and he/she maybe goes like "Hey you're from Ghana right?
I have a friend named James who visited there last year, do you know him?"
Lol Ghana isn't small at all. It may look small on the World Map but it definitely isn't.
Made of Ten (10) with a long list of cities and towns. There's no way everyone knows everyone.

3.Children ride Donkeys to School.
Ok not exactly Donkey they say but animals in general. That's total nonsense. *excuse my language.
But come on. Wealthy people live here. What car don't we have here? From the Bugatti - Ferraris'-
Aston martins - Lamborghinis. You name it. And children who might not be kids of these wealth people
use public transport like every other kid in the world. Not Donkeys.

4. Terrible Cuisine.
If you've ever visited any African Restaurant in the Western lands, you'll know
how good the food tastes. Just imagine how better its tastes in the Home country.
Ghanaians definitely have the best cuisines anyone could ask for, with funny sounding names of course.
"Banku", "Fufu", "Jollof", "Waakye". Foods that will blow you away.

5. Crime
Which country on this earth doesn't have crime? Which country is 100% violent free?
Before anyone thinks to tag such a country as crime prone, keep in mind
crime is everywhere in the world.
Yes, a few robberies here and there but it isn't as bad as many make it sound.
Crime rates here keep decreasing day in and day out. So you don't really need to be
alarmed.
